Schepenhuis

Sight A historical building in Mechelen, it provides a unique insight into the city's medieval past, serving as a meeting place for the city's aldermen and housing the Parlement and Great Council of Mechelen.

Kraanbrug

Bridge A historic metal swing bridge in Mechelen, a combination of a drawbridge and an arch in masonry, with a unique history dating back to 1311, featuring a wooden crane that once stood nearby.

Duivelshuis

House A traditional Flemish house, known as Duivelshuis, featuring Gothic architecture with early Renaissance elements, including a pointed gable and intricate wood carvings depicting scenes from the Bible.

Klein Begijnhof

Sight A béguinage, dating back to the beginning of the 13th century, with a history of being the first beguinage in Mechelen. The complex features a former Maria-Magdalenakapel, now hosting a museum, and is notable for its 18th-century tile tableau depicting Christ on the cross.

St. Rumbold's Cathedral

Sight The tower contains 49 bells, with only the largest in working order, including the 8-ton Salvator bell that strikes the hours. Up to 1923, 18 bell ringers served the cathedral before electricity took over.

Aartsbisschoppelijk Paleis van Mechelen

Sight Aartsbisschoppelijk Paleis van Mechelen: An episcopal palace built between 1719-1741 in classicist style, influenced by Italian architecture, with a U-shaped layout and features such as sobriety and horizontalism.

Refugium van Sint-Truiden

Sight A Category 1 monument, the Refugium van Sint-Truiden is a former monastery house of refuge belonging to the Abbey of Sint-Truiden, built in the 16th century as a town palace and refuge for the Benedictine abbey.

Saint John's Church

Sight Saint John's Church is a Gothic parish church from the 15th century, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist, and is a protected cultural monument.

Stadsfeestzaal

Sight A neoclassicist building complex designed by Victor Louckx in 1883, initially used as a school and function hall, and later converted into a single-use city hall, featuring a historic facade and auditorium.

Sight A historic square in Mechelen, featuring a large bus stop, underground parking garage, bike-share and car-share services, as well as a Neptune statue and nearby schools, including the Sint-Romboutscollege and Sint-Pieters-en-Pauluskerk.
